Orissa State Branch………..48 Yrs Journey
The association came into existence in 1975 formally in presence of Prof. Gangadhar Behara, Prof. Abhoya Kar (who is our Editor in Chief of Journal), Dr. Arakhita Prusty, Prof. Bhaktlata Ray, Prof. R.N. Biswal & few others. In 1976 the first annual conference of AOI Odisha was held at Cuttack & Prof. Behara was the first President of our society & continued till 1983. Under his guidance and encouragement, AOI Odisha dared to hold the 30th National Annual Conference of AOI at Cuttack. After that the society has grown in number & academic activities. Now we have more than 260 active life members registered in AOI Odisha. Dr. B.N. Das, the President & Dr. Rajlaxmi Panigrahi, the Hony Secretary and Dr. S.N. Mishra, the Hony Treasurer are in chair presently.
The 48th National Conference & 59th National Conference of AOI has also been conducted under AOI Odisha in 1996 & 2007 respectively under Prof. R.N. Biswal as Organising Secretary. The association every year conducts annual conference, live surgical workshops and CME time to time.
In 2007, the idea of starting a journal in name “Orissa Journal of Otolaryngology & Head Neck Surgery” was floated and since then the association is publishing it regularly twice a year in print version. With active support from senior members like Prof. Sanjeev Mohanty (MGM Health Care, Chennai), Prof. Dr. Nayak, Bhubaneswar, Prof. R.N. Biswal, Prof. R.N. Samal, Prof. G.C. Sahoo, Prof. K.C. Mallik the journal is growing in strength. Recently it has been decided to hand over the publication responsibility to Wedknow Publication House online version in view of changed guidelines of NMC for faculties. Prof. Dr. Nayak & Dr. C.S. Ray are now in charge of onboarding the new version in 2023.
AOI Odisha also conducts one university oration for undergraduate in name of “S Kumar Oration” under Utkal University at SCB Medical College time to time by many eminent speakers like Prof. Deka (AIIMS), Dr. Morwani (Mumbai), Prof. Naresh Panda (PGI), Prof. Santanu Banerjee (Kolkata) to name a few.
AOI Odisha has been honoured to host national & international faculties of our ENT in various state conferences every year. In 2028 once again AOI Odisha is going to host the National AOICON 2028 at Bhubaneswar.
